PRAGUE, Czech Republic -- Czech veteran midfielder Karel Poborsky has announced his retirement from international soccer.
"I'm grateful for what I experienced in the national team but I've decided to quit," Poborsky told Czech public television late Monday.
The 34-year-old played a record 118 times and scored eight goals for his country. Poborsky indicated before the World Cup that he planned to retire from the national team afterward.
The Czechs were eliminated in the group stage and Poborsky's final game was a 2-0 loss to Italy on June 22.
On a club level, Poborsky said he plans to play one more year for Ceske Budejovice in the country's first division. His past clubs have included Manchester United, Benfica, Portugal put the Czechs into the semifinals and was voted goal of the tournament.
Poborsky also played a major role in the team that reached the semifinals at the 2004 European Championship in Portugal.
